The Academia Porteña del Lunfardo (Buenos Aires Lunfardo
Academy) was founded on December, 21, 1962, for the purpose of following
up the development of popular speech in Buenos Aires and re-value
certain cultural expresions -drama, tango, urban popular poetry and
all the cultural streams dealing with the depiction of urban manners-
which make use of a lunfardo lexicon.
It is a private institution, which is supported by around a thousand
people who pay a small yearly fee in order to secure its maintenance
and to finance its activities.
It is currently presided over by José Gobello. Former
chairmen were José Barcia, Marcos Augusto Morínigo
and Sebastián Piana.
It offers the public the free services of its library, files and lexixographic
records. It edits bulletins and publications on subjects dealing with
the interest of the institution.

Its opening time is everyday from 14.00 to 19.00.
