Among the 200 countries in the world, Argentina is the eight
largest nation.
At the same time, it is one of the countries with less population density.
At the present time, it accounts for 0.6 per cent of the whole world population.
Among the political and economic projects of the countries of
this continent there was always an ideal of inter-American union. The
pioner organization was OAS (Organization of American States), established
in 1948.
The Second stage of unification was characterized by the constitution of "subregional
common markets".
Finally, in 1990, a new organization was created, covering the southern area
of continent:
